2017 Project
WE CHARITY
OUR 2017 INTERNATIONAL FUNDRAISER
Since 2003 the Sauble & Area Men’s Club has raised over $55,000 in support of Community and International Projects. Some of these include:
Wells Project in Cambodia with Hope International (where we provided clean water to an entire village)
Sleeping Children Around the World where approximately 150 bedkits were donated
The Sauble Medical Clinic had a room furnished with our donations
Hope Springs was a project in support of the Wiarton Salvation Army provided instruction on everything from meal preparation to growing vegetables
Tytoo Garden Orphanage in Haiti was equipped with a new kitchen
Grey/Bruce Hospice, known now as the Chapman House, was the recipient of our very successful fundraiser two years ago
This year we implement our next charitable project. In the fall members completed a survey to assist the Executive in choosing an International Charity to support. Using this valuable feedback we are pleased to announce that we are requesting your support of the WE CHARITY
We Charity, formerly known as Free The Children, is a worldwide development charity and youth empowerment movement founded in 1995 by two brothers, Craig and Marc Keilburger. How this charity was founded involves an incredible story.
Twelve year old Craig was reading through the Toronto Star newspaper before school one day when he came across an article about the murder of twelve year old Pakistani boy, a former child factory worker, who had spoken out against child labour. Soon after the Kleiburger brothers, with a group of Craig’s twelve year old classmates established Free The Children. Presently development projects are directed to rural China, Nicaragua, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Haiti, India and Ecuador.
The program is made up of five pillars: Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, Health, Opportunity, and Food. These projects are designed to address the root causes of poverty and remove the barriers to children’s education in the developing world. The results are truly amazing. Sustainability ranks very high!
The financial magazine, Money Sense, in November 2016 evaluated numerous charitable organizations and the WE Charity received outstanding merits, placing it in the top 6% of the 100 Charities evaluated.
At our next Dinner meeting this Fundraising Project with We Charity will be formally presented. A representative from Toronto will be our guest speaker and will present the aims, objectives and the successes. Mark April 25th on your calendar. We are hoping that everyone will bring along with them a very special friend, your chequebook!
