HCSS Volunteers Needed

Volunteer Drivers Urgently Needed

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED – Home and Community Support Services (HCSS)

An important message from Stephen Musehl – Executive Director HCSS.

Dear Sauble Beach and Area Men’s Club,

I hope you are well. I am reaching out to you to share a large need. Our volunteer drivers support about 30,000 medical, social and day-away rides in Grey and Bruce counties, and right now we have a desperate need in the Peninsula area, especially for our day program (which gives caregivers 7 hours of respite and clients physical, social and cognitive activities with healthy meals). We are currently having to decline many rides to the hospital, day away program, grocery shopping and more due to the lack of volunteer drivers. Covid-19 has had a large impact on our volunteer base as many are hesitant to drive others for concern of their own health, and the Medical Officer of Health has mandated we only use vaccinated volunteers as well, which has further reduced our capacity.

I am reaching out to you, to see if you would share the need with your members and community. Even volunteering 1 day a week would make a huge impact to the community. We currently reimburse mileage at 45 cents a km (minimum $9), although that will be increasing starting April 1 to 50 cents a km (minimum $10)

If interested, please contact Carolyn Laitinen, our director of volunteers, and her contact is 519-372-2091 ext 2003 and email is claitinen@hcssgreybruce.com
