Craft Sale BBQ Fundraiser
The Sauble & Area Men’s Club BBQ Fundraiser was once again a huge success as part of the Artisan & Craft Show held at the Sauble Beach Community Centre. Many patrons and vendors enjoyed a choice of delicious peameal bacon on a bun along with hamburgers and hot dogs with all the “fixins”. With our BBQs strategically placed at the community centre entrance we were able to nourish a steady flow of hungry customers and realized a profit of $361 and so all the hard work was well worth the effort.
Many thanks go out to all the volunteers who contributed to the success of this project. These included; Jim Atkinson, Dennis Sisko, Cliff Bilyea, Phil Norley, Dennis Heathers, Bill Miller, Al Johnson, Ken Loucks, Rick Schott, Barry Gauthier, Bill Hiscox, and Bill Duthler with Don Riddell using his organizational skills to coordinate this successful fundraiser.
Hazardous Waste Collection
ONce again the Sauble Beach Household Hazardous and Special Waste Collection Day took place this year on Saturday, August 17th under direction of the Bruce County Highways Department.
As is our custom volunteers from the Men’s Club provided support in this important annual event to help ensure that the environment remains clean and safe from hazardous materials. Materials brought to us included such items as paints and stains, batteries, household cleaners, propane tanks, antifreeze, fluorescent lights, fire extinguishers, used oil, oil filters, fertilizers, pesticides, aerosols, solvents and various fuels.
While the weather did not cooperate fully volunteers managed to unload materials from 120 vehicles which, of course, saved these hazardous waste items from going to the landfill. The exact weight of goods dropped off by category won’t be tabulated for a few weeks and we will try and post these results when they are received.
Many thanks to not only the volunteers that persevered through the less than perfect weather but also to the many members of the Men’s Club and our community who made use of this service to properly dispose of waste materials with a special "thank you" to Rick Schott for organizing this event in the absence of Alf Roth. We would also thank the envirotech folks who supplied the coffee and donuts.
